Each piece in the series has been inspired by drawings of recent journeys and travels around Italy and Marrakesh...it's been and exciting year with much to record!
There is no drawing or background colour on the woollen base before I start sewing, but I do always draw on paper before I commence any stitchery and I'm directly influenced by this drawing as I launch myself on the the barren fabric. All the colour you see is thread...I paint with thread, I mix colour through stitch. I add texture with my thread and stitch choices. It's intense and physically exhausting. My mode of stitch is energetic and lively, I'm running as opposed to talking a leisurely stroll. My sewing machine runs at 1600 stitches per minute, that's twice as fast as a regular domestic machine!
“Dionne has a grasp of the abstract and the perception to transpose to the particular in machine embroidered poetic landscapes” Diana Springall
I was astonished by the vibrancy of the Marrakesh streets - the dusty ground yet buildings brusting with colour and life. The sky was always a rich blue and warmth radiated into the alleys.
I love movement and direction in a composition which takes the eye into the scene to enjoy and be enveloped.
Each piece is approx 20 x 20cm [some fractionally larger, some a tad smaller]
You can choose to have your piece:-
- Unmounted. Obviously the cheapest and easiest to post - you can choose your own size, type and proportions of mounting and framing.
- Floated. Surface mounted onto soft white, acid free mount board. I fix pieces with stitch on 30 x 30cm mount board
- Floated [as before] & box framed in a limed Ash box frame [final size 34 x 34 x 4cm]. I can send you images of the frames I have avaiable, but you may find it more economical to work with a framer local to you.
Please select the appropriate options in the drop down menus.
I use the best quality thread and fabric for all my artwork, however as with any piece of art, I would recomend avoiding placing it in direct sunlight.
