This free machine embroidered textile piece is part of a collection of works based on drawings from a recent trip to New Zealand where we visited a Gannet colony north of Auckland, we were on the coast and the tide was against us!!... adding pressure and adrenaline to the process.
The vitalitily of the drawings is captured in my approach to stitch: It need not be static and twee, but lively, spontaneous and energising.
Cotton, wool and viscose threads are used on heavy wool cloth: I play with thread tension and thickness to develop a mark making vocabularly akin to painting

This piece is approx 40 x 40 cm, sensitively attached to a discreet batten allowing the artwork to flow and undulate natuarally.
