Virtual Log Cabin Quilt
In collaboration with my very good friends, Magie & Bob at The African Fabric Shop and 'Queen of Quilting' Janice Gunner [former President of The Quilters Guild of the British Isles], I am proud to announce the launch of the biggest collaborative quilt EVER!!!
The world is in a very strange place at the moment, with many countries in 'lockdown'. We all need to stay at home, stay safe, stay well and keep the pressure off our medical services. To keep our fingers busy, our minds engaged and our hearts entertained, we propose creating an amazing community quilt - for now it will be a virtual quilt...but we are working on ways to make it 'real' in the future.
We invite you to make an 8"/20cm square log cabin quilt block with a 2 1/4"/5cm YELLOW centre: that yellow square in the centre signifies courage, hope and light at the end of the tunnel. The log cabin design itself is all about 'home' and belonging, being part of something bigger - a bigger family/community. Every quilt is made of small parts that when placed together make a wonderful, strong and beautiful whole.
Let's make it colourful, vibrant and strong!
Janice has put together some straight forward instructions so that everyone can have a go and get involved: young, young at heart, professionals, newbies EVERYBODY! Download the PDF instructions and you can watch me making my block using colourful Shweshwe fabric from The African Fabric Shop: see the video below...
Take a clear photograph of your block, in square format, cropping your image right upto the edges, as per the video - use bright natural light to take a clear image, crop it into a square format, title the file with your name and upload it using the form below. We will compose an almighty quilt image to be displayed on our 3 respective websites.
Now it's time to raid your stash, maybe do some online shopping and get creating your 20cm log cabin square of loveliness...don't forget that yellow square in the centre :-)
You can also use the hashtag #virtuallogcabin to upload to a picture of your finished block to Instagram, where an instant quilt will form. Only use this hashtag for your finished blocks and don't forget to edit/crop to a square format!!! Thank you!
[NB - instagram images will not show up on the main virtual quilt - you must use the form above]
Please give me a couple of days to add your images to the main quilt - unfortunately this isn't an automated process!
Please only upload one image of each block - you are welcome to make as many blocks as you like but duplicates throw the system!!
